The Flash Magazine - December 2019 edition
Abstract
As we congratulate the 2020 class, it is worth noting that this is the most
unique cohort since the inception of the University. The COVID-19
pandemic posed a tangible threat to the completion of their studies
and subsequent graduation. However, with concerted efforts made
by the University Management, academic staff and the entire University fraternity,
their dream has finally come true. The Directorates of Open, Distance & e-Learning
(ODeL) and ICT deserve a pat on the back for the well-coordinated e-learning
exercise that ensured the success of our Graduation Ceremony.
In the midst of the global crisis, the University managed to continue with its ongoing
projects that saw the phased use of the new Tuition Block, acquisition of a new
46-seater bus and development of new academic programmes. All the necessary
facilities have also been put up in order to curb the spread of COVID-19, in line with
the Ministry of Health protocols.
For the first time, the University of Embu Students Association (UESA) elections
and swearing in ceremony for the new office bearers were done virtually, enabling
students to participate from home. This was a remarkable milestone for the University
since no leadership vacuum has been left by the outgoing comrades. Admission
and orientation for first year students was also done virtually. This was a very rare
experience for the freshers since they attended classes before setting foot at the
University!
