Item Acousto-Diffusive Waves in a Piezoelectric-Semiconductor-Piezoelectric Sandwich Structure(2011-10) Sharma, Jagan Nath; Sharma, Kuldeep Kumar; Kumar, AshwaniThe propagation of acoustic waves in a homogeneous isotropic semiconducting layer sandwiched between two homogeneous transversely isotropic piezoelectric halfspaces has been investigated. The mathematical model of the problem is depicted by a set of partial differential equations of motion, Gauss equation in piezoelectric material and electron diffusion equation in semiconductor along with the boundary conditions to be satisfied at the piezoelectric-semiconductor interfaces. The secular equations describing the symmetric and asymmetric modes of wave propagation have been derived in compact form after obtaining the analytical expressions for various field quantities that govern the wave motion. The complex secular equation has been solved numerically using functional interaction method along with irreducible cardano method. The computer simulated results are obtained with the help of MATLAB software for 6mm cadmium selenide (CdSe) piezoelectric material and n-type silicon (Si) semiconductor in respect of dispersion curve, attenuation and specific loss factor of energy dissipation for symmetric (sym) and asymmetric (asym) modes of wave propagation. The study may find applications in non-destructive testing, resonators, waveguides etcItem Aerodynamic Brake for Formula Cars(2015-10) Leone MartellucciIn the last years, in formula racing cars championships, the aerodynamic had reached an ever more important stance as a performance parameter. In the last four seasons, Red Bull Racing Technical Officer had designed their Formula 1 car with the specific aim to generate the optimal downforce, in relation to the car instantaneous setup. However, this extreme research of higher downforce brings some negative effects when a car is within the wake of another car; indeed, it is well known that under these condition the aerodynamic is disturbed, and it makes difficult to overtake the leading car. To partially remedy this problem, Formula 1 regulations introduced the Drag Reduction System (DRS) in 2011, which was an adjustable flap located on the rear wing; if it is flattened, allowing to reduce the downforce, increasing significantly the velocity and, therefore, the chances to overtake the leading car. Vice versa, when the flap is closed, it ensures a higher grip, which is very useful especially in medium-slow speed turns. Keeping the focus on the rear wing, but by shifting attention from the increased top speed to increase the grip in the middle and slow speed curves, we decided to study a similar device to the DRS, but with the opposite effect. The aim is to design an aerodynamic brake integrated with the rear wing. In particular, the project idea was to sculpt, on the upper surface of the wing (pressure side), a series of "C" shaped cavity, normally covered by adequate sliding panels. These cavities, when they are discovered, at the beginning of the braking phase, produce a turbulence and additional increase downforce, lightening the load on the braking system and allowing the pilot to substantially reduce slippage and to delay the braking. Since it seems that the regulations adopted by the FIA Formula 1 Championship do not allow such a device, it has been decided to apply the concept on a Formula 4 vehicle. This paper describes the design and analyzes the effects of these details on a standard wing cavity, using a commercial CFD softwareItem Analysis on Physical Mechanism of Sound Generation inside Cavities Based on Acoustic Analogy Method(Scientific Research, 2013-03) Yang, Dangguo; Li, Jianqiang; Liu, Jun; Zhang, Yi; Li, YaohuaAnalysis of coupling aerodynamics and acoustics are performed to investigate the self-sustained oscillation and aerodynamic noise in two-dimensional flow past a cavity with length to depth ratio of 2 at subsonic speeds. The large eddy simulation (LES) equations and integral formulation of Ffowcs-Williams and Hawings (FW-H) are solved for the cavity with same conditions as experiments. The obtained density-field agrees well with Krishnamurty’s experimental schlieren photograph, which simulates flow-field distributions and the direction of sound wave radiation. The simulated self-sustained oscillation modes inside the cavity agree with Rossiter’s and Heller’s predicated results, which indicate frequency characteristics are obtained. Moreover, the results indicate that the feedback mechanism that new shedding-vortexes induced by propagation of sound wave created by the impingement of the shedding-vortexes in the shear-layer and rear cavity face leads to self-sustained oscillation and high noise inside the cavity. The peak acoustic pressure occurs in the first oscillation mode and the most of sound energy focuses on the low-frequency region.Item An Analytical Model of the Power Law Distributions in the Complex Network(2012-08) Takagi, KosukeIt is known that complex networks in nature exhibit some significant statistical features. We notice power law distributions which frequently emerge with respect to network structures of various quantities. One example is the scale-freeness which is described by the degree distribution in the power law shape. In this paper, within an analytical approach, we investigate the analytical conditions under which the distribution is reduced to the power law. We show that power law distributions are obtained without introducing conditions specific to each system or variable. Conversely, if we demand no special condition to a distribution, it is imposed to follow the power law. This result explains the universality and the ubiquitous presence of the power law distributions in complex networksItem Angular Impulse and Spinning Bouncing Ball(2017-07) Sarafian, Haiduke; Lobe, NanazA solid ball of mass m, size r and spin ω about an axis through its center is dropped freely from a height h on a rough horizontal plane. Assuming its angular momentum is parallel to the horizontal plane upon impact it bounces repeatedly drifting on a vertical plane. We analyze the kinematics of the bouncing ball assuming the impacts are semi-elastic without slipping. By varying the spin and relevant parameters, a robust Mathematica [1] program enables simulating the trajectoriesItem The Bistability Theorem in a Model of Metastatic Cancer(Scientific Research Publishing, 2016-06) Larsen, Jens C.The main theorem of the present paper is the bistability theorem for a four dimensional cancer model, in the variables representing primary cancer C, metastatic cancer , growth factor GF and growth inhibitor GI, respectively. It says that for some values of the para- meters this system is bistable, in the sense that there are exactly two positive singular points of this vector field. And one is stable and the other unstable. We also find an expression for for the discrete model T of the introduction, with variables , where C is cancer, are growth factors and growth inhibitors respectively. We find an affine vector field Y whose time one map is T2 and then compute , where is an integral curve of Y through . We also find a formula for the first escape time for the vector field associated to T, see section four.Item Boundedness of Fractional Integral with Variable Kernel and Their Commutators on Variable Exponent Herz Spaces(Scientific Research Publishing, 2016-06) Abdalmonem, Afif; Abdalrhman, Omer; Tao, ShuangpingIn this paper, we study the boundedness of the fractional integral operator and their commutator on Herz spaecs with two variable exponents . By using the properties of the variable exponents Lebesgue spaces, the boundedness of the fractional integral operator and their commutator generated by Lipschitz function is obtained on those Herz spaces.Item A Class of Generalized Approximate Inverse Solvers for Unsymmetric Linear Systems of Irregular Structure Based on Adaptive Algorithmic Modelling for Solving Complex Computational Problems in Three Space Dimensions(Scientific Research Publishing, 2016-07) Lipitakis, Anastasia-DimitraA class of general inverse matrix techniques based on adaptive algorithmic modelling methodologies is derived yielding iterative methods for solving unsymmetric linear systems of irregular structure arising in complex computational problems in three space dimensions. The proposed class of approximate inverse is chosen as the basis to yield systems on which classic and preconditioned iterative methods are explicitly applied. Optimized versions of the proposed approximate inverse are presented using special storage (k-sweep) techniques leading to economical forms of the approximate inverses. Application of the adaptive algorithmic methodologies on a characteristic nonlinear boundary value problem is discussed and numerical results are given.Item Classification of derivation algebras in low dimensions(King Saud University, 2018-01) Guediri, Mohammed; Albalawi, KholoudA left-symmetric algebra A is said to be a derivation algebra if all its left and right multiplications are derivations of the Lie algebra associated to A. In this paper, we shall study derivation algebras over R and then classify almost all those of dimensions ≤ 4Item Combined Effect of Magnetic Field and Compressibility on Rayleigh Taylor Instability(Scientific Research, 2015-12) Mitra, Aniruddha; Mandal, Labakanta; Roychoudhury, Rajkumar; Khan, ManoranjanThe nonlinear analysis of the combined effect of magnetic field and compressibility on the growth rate of Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) instability has been investigated for inviscid two fluid interface. We have considered an interface-parallel density dependent magnetic field and used Layzer’s approach to analyze the problem. We have also investigated the relative effect of magnetic pressure and hydrodynamic pressure on RT instability through the variation of the ratio of hydromagnetic pressure to magnetic pressure ( β ). Dynamics of bubble and spike has been studied analytically and numerically. Finally, we have obtained the stability conditions of our result through linear stability analysisItem The Combining Confidence Distribution Method to the Behrens-Fisher Problem(Scientific Research Publishing, 2016-07) Tao, Wenyong; Ye, WanzhouBased on the Confidence Distribution method to the Behrens-Fisher problem, we consider two approaches of combining Confidence Distributions: P Combination and AN Combination to solve the Behrens-Fisher problem. Firstly, we provide some Confidence Distributions to the Behrens-Fisher problem, and then we give the Confidence Distribution method to the Behrens-Fisher problem. Finally, we compare the “combination” and the “single” through the numerical simulation.Item Comparative Analysis of Velocity Decomposition Methods for Internal Combustion Engines(Scientific Research, 2012-09) Ölçmen, Semih; Ashford, Marcus; Schinestsky, Philip; Drabo, MebougnaDifferent signal processing technique performances are compared to each other with regard to separating the mean and fluctuating velocity components of a simulated one-dimensional unsteady velocity signal comparable to signals observed in internal combustion engines. A simulation signal with known mean and fluctuating components was generated using experimental data and generic turbulence spectral information. The simulation signal was generated based on observations on the measured velocity data obtained using LDV in a motored Briggs-and-Stratton engine at about 600 RPM. Experimental data was used as a guide to shape the simulated signal mean velocity variation; fluctuating velocity variations with specified spectrum and standard deviation was used to mimic the turbulence. Cyclic variations were added both to the mean and the fluctuating velocity signals to simulate prescribed cyclic variations. The simulated signal was introduced as input to the following algorithms: ensemble averaging; high-pass filtering; Proper-Orthogonal Decomposition (POD); Wavelet Decomposition (WD) and Wavelet Decomposition/Principal Component Analysis (WD/PCA). The results were analyzed to determine the best method in correctly separating the mean and the fluctuating velocity information, indicating that the WD/PCA performs better compared to other techniques.Item Comparative Study of the Effect of the Parameters of Sizing Data on Results by the Meshless Methods (MLPG)(2013-02) Moussaoui, Ahmed; Bouziane, TouriaThe local Petrov-Galerkin methods (MLPG) have attracted much attention due to their great flexibility in dealing with numerical model in elasticity problems. It is derived from the local weak form (WF) of the equilibrium equations and by inducting the moving last square approach for trial and test functions in (WF) is discussed over local sub-domain. In this paper, we studied the effect of the configuration parameters of the size of the support or quadrature domain, and the effect of the size of the cells with nodes distribution number on the accuracy of the methods. It also presents a comparison of the results for the Shear stress, the deflections and the error in energyItem Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis of Greenhouses with Artificial Heat Tube(2012-08) Couto, Nuno; Rouboa, Abel; Monteiro, Eliseu; Viera, JoséWith the workmanship decrease in farms, the necessity to rationalize the use of other inputs and the development of technology has rapidly expanded the use of computer simulation in agricultural systems. One of the agricultural systems in which the modeling process of plant growth has been more engaged is the greenhouse production for horticultural crops. In Mediterranean climate, it is during the night that the energy losses are important and can be compensated with an artificial heat input. In this work an experiment was performed in a greenhouse in the north of Portugal. Temperature values in several points and air velocity in the aperture were measured during the night for three different cases: natural convective heating (case A); artificial heating tubes (AHT) (case B); AHT and natural ventilation (case C). A CFD simulation, carried out using FLOTRAN module of ANSYS, was also performed in two-dimensional configuration to obtain the indoor air temperature and velocity fields for the three cases. A very good agreement between experimental and numerical temperature values were verified, which allows to validate the adopted numerical procedure. In case A, the average temperature was 2.2˚C. An average increase of 6.7˚C and 3.5˚C on the air temperature was obtained for the case B and case C, respectively. These results clearly emphasis the influence of each thermal load on greenhouse indoor air propertiesItem A Computational Study of the Gas-Solid Suspension Flow through a Supersonic Nozzle(Scientific Research, 2012-12) Sun, Jian G.; Kim, Heuy D.; Park, Jin O.; Jin, Ying Z.The present study focuses on numerical simulation of the gas-solid suspension flow in a supersonic nozzle. The Euler- Lagrange approach using a Discrete Phase Model (DPM) has been used to solve the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. A fully implicit finite volume scheme has been employed to discretize the governing equations. Based upon the present CFD results, the particle loading effect on gas-solid suspension flow was investigated. The results show that the presence of particles has a big influence on the gas phase behavior. The structure of shock train, the separation point, and the vortex of the backflow are all related to particle loading. As the particle loading increases the flow characteristics behave differently such as 1) the strength of shock train decreases, 2) the separation point moves toward the nozzle exit, 3) the number and strength of vortex increase, 4) the strength of first shock also increases while the other pseudo shocks decreases. The change of gas flow behavior in turn affects the particle distribution. The particles are concentrated at the shear layers separated from the upper wall surface.Item Convergence Analysis of General Version of Gauss-Type Proximal Point Method for Metrically Regular Mappings(Scientific Research Publishing, 2016-07) Alom, Md. Asraful; Rashid, Mohammed H.; Dey, Kalyan K.We introduce and study in the present paper the general version of Gauss-type proximal point algorithm (in short GG-PPA) for solving the inclusion , where T is a set-valued mapping which is not necessarily monotone acting from a Banach space X to a subset of a Banach space Y with locally closed graph. The convergence of the GG-PPA is present here by choosing a sequence of functions with , which is Lipschitz continuous in a neighbourhood O of the origin and when T is metrically regular. More precisely, semi-local and local convergence of GG-PPA are analyzed. Moreover, we present a numerical example to validate the convergence result of GG-PPA.Item A critical review of experimental results on low temperature charge transport in carbon nanotubes based composites(Elsevier, 2017-11) Bhatia, Ravi; Kumari, Kiran; Rani, Reena; Suri, Anil; Pahuja, Ushma; Singh, DevinderOwing to their low density, high aspect ratio and excellent charge transport properties, Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are proven to be one of the best reinforcing materials in the fabrication of composite materials. CNTs dispersed in a non-conducting matrix is an interesting system for condensed matter physicists and materials scientists; CNT based composites offer an opportunity to physicists to design different experiments for fundamental studies while these composites are suitable for several technological applications that are of interest to materials scientists. In this review article, we summarize interesting experimental results on low temperature charge transport properties of composites based on multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) that have been reported in the past decade. In particular, we critically review different conduction mechanisms that have been identified through detailed investigations of charge transport characteristics as functions of MWCNT loading in the composites, temperature, and magnetic field.Item Decisive Parameters for Backwater Effects Caused by Floating Debris Jams(Scientific Research, 2015-12) Hartlieb, ArndThe dimensional analysis of the backwater effect caused by debris jams results in the Froude number of the approach flow in the initial situation prior to debris jam formation and the debris density as decisive parameters. For the more precise detection of the influence of both parameters the results of different hydraulic model test series at the Laboratory of Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering of the Technical University of Munich concerning debris jams at spillways as well as at racks for the retention of wooden debris were uniformly evaluated. On the one hand a significant increase of the backwater effect with a rising Froude number of the approach flow could be shown. This is in good correlation to recent test results for debris jams at retention racks at the Laboratory of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. On the other hand a significant increase of the backwater effect could also be shown for a rising debris density. However, the test results also show that significantly different backwater effects can occur in different test runs with identical test conditions. These differences are a result of the randomness of debris jam development, and therefore, a more exact quantification of the dependence of the backwater effect on the Froude number of the approach flow and on the debris density is not considered useful for the present results.Item Definition of Increasing the Fibre Capturing Surface of Saw Teeth of Cotton Ginning Machine through Mathematic Modelling(2011-06) Mamatovich, Azizov S.; Abdusamat, KarimovTheoretical and the experimental researches executed in Uzbekistan and abroad explored some ways of a substantiation of a rational profile of a tooth of a saw and its fibre capturing ability. Despite that, untill now, optimum parameters of a saw gin which provides high quality ginning without harming the quality of cotton fibre have not been found. Considering the stated above in the given job the influence of the changed form of saw teeth on fibre-capturing area is examined. The analytical formulas for the additional area promoting to double the fibre capture quantity by saw teeth are receivedItem Delay and Its Time-Derivative Dependent Stable Criterion for Differential-Algebraic Systems(Scientific Research Publishing, 2016-06) Liu, Hui; Ding, YucaiIn this paper, the stable problem for differential-algebraic systems is investigated by a convex op-timization approach. Based on the Lyapunov functional method and the delay partitioning approach, some delay and its time-derivative dependent stable criteria are obtained and formulated in the form of simple linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The obtained criteria are dependent on the sizes of delay and its time-derivative and are less conservative than those produced by previous approaches.
